Four drivers are finalists for Highway Hero

Four drivers are finalists for Highway Hero
By Lance Orr

Four truck drivers who risked their lives to save others on the road are finalists for the Goodyear North America Highway Hero Award.

Jose Ogas Jr. of Fayetteville, N.C., drives for TMC Transportation of Des Moines, Iowa. He used his U.S. Army training to get a man and his daughter out of a burning car on Dec. 31, 2003.

Pat Foraker of Quaker City, Ohio, drives for Transport Corporation of America, based in Eagan, Minn. Foraker and his wife, Brenda, saved two women in two different cars in a crash on April 15, 2004, in Greenville, Mich.

Rick Dent of Diana, Texas, drives for Groendyke Transport of Enid, Okla. Dent saved a father and his two children on July 14, 2004, on U.S. 84 near Jena, La. The three were trapped in their car in a water-filed ditch after swerving around a deer.

David Tucker of La Grande, Ore., drives for Seneca Foods of Marion, N.Y. He saved a California Highway Patrol officer under attack by a drunken driver on Dec. 2, 2003.

The winner, selected by journalists from the trucking industry, will be named March 31 at the Truck Writers of North America banquet at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky.

"We are thankful for these courageous truck drivers who travel our highways," said Steve McClellan, Goodyear vice president for commercial tire systems. "In the 22 years of the Goodyear Highway Hero program, we have heard about hundreds of truck drivers who placed themselves in harm's way to save someone else, and we believe it is important that they be recognized publicly."

The Equalizer Tandem Pin Puller

The Equalizer Tandem Pin Puller has saved a lot of time for drivers that get trailers that the pins are hard to pull.

There is a trailer that one of the trucking companies has that can't be pulled at all, until the Equalizer Tandem Pin Puller. After attaching the Equalizer to the trailer, just two trys and the pins are out.
