AIDS lesson for truck drivers from automobile association
New Delhi, February 12: CONCERNED about the rising incidents of HIV/AIDS in highway truck drivers, the Automobile Association of Upper India announced that it will soon launch an educational workshop for them as part of its refresher course.
‘‘We will be launching the special workshop to educate truck drivers about HIV/AIDS from February 21. We will be assisted by International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the Sexual Health Research Clinic (SHRC) run by activist Sadhna Mohan. We are targeting at least 1000-1,200 drivers per month”, said T.K. Malhotra, CEO AAUI.
“The idea came from the drivers during an interactive session. The drivers are completely unaware of HIV and how it can pass on to their wives and babies. Our workshop, which will have doctors and NGO, will attempt to dispel the myths associated with AIDS besides warning them about the disease and its causes”, added Malhotra
